Call To Ban Smoking
In Irish Homes
(01/02/07)
A report before the Irish Government calls on them to implement measures
to extend the smoking ban to peoples own homes. The report by the Irish
Health Promotion Unit within the HSE recommends that apartment complexes
and dwellings with multi tenants be the first target of such a ban.

The report follows a study by so called experts that showed over 50% of
Irish people choose to allow smoking in their own homes. This has
prompted anti smoking fanatics within the Irish Health Service to
publish this report demanding the government take action and not allow
people to facilitate smoking in their own homes. A conclusion of the
report carried out by the HSE was that people allowed smoking in their
own homes because they were not assertive enough. The report calls for
the government to spend money on assertiveness training and media
campaigns to encourage people to be assertive about stopping smoking in
their own homes. The authors further demand the government explore
extending smoking ban legislation to cover the home.
One thing this report and study by so called experts seems to have
overlooked is that many Irish people are capable of exercising a modicum
of common sense in relation to the fanatical hysteria about smoking.
They continue to smoke and allow others to smoke in their homes because
they have concluded the oppressive and fanatical campaign against the
smoker and passive smoke is underpinned by utter medical junk science
and posses no great health risk.
Freedom of Choice was buried alongside common sense and decency with the
introduction of the smoking ban in Ireland. Intolerance replaced
compromise and what was once a mere pet hate has become a tyrannical
crusade of hysteric proportions. A crusade aided by draconian
legislation backed up with jackboot tactics and underpinned by medical
junk science. That so called health experts can without the bat of an
eyelid recommend to a government that people in their own private homes
be bullied, coerced and forced to behave in a way they deem fit should
surely raise alarm bells in even the most docile and compliant of
citizens.
