Another Day, Another ASH Lie
(25/08/06)
ASH
spokeswoman Maureen Moore has claimed to the British Press that Irish Bars
have experienced no sustained loss of trade as a result of the smoking ban.
This follows alarm expressed in Scotland at declining trade only a few
months into the ban there. According to Moore "
In Ireland and Norway, where smoking bans have
been in place for some time, there have been no substantiated reports of bad
loss of trade. "
Maureen Moore's statement is another in a long
line of misleading statements and lies issued by this group. Over 600
hundred bars have closed in Ireland since the ban and are continuing to
close at a rate of one a day. It is feared that by Easter 2007 around a
thousand bars will have closed for good since smoking prohibition was
introduced, over 10% of bars in Ireland. It should be borne in mind that
this has happened at a time of unprecedented economic and population growth
in Ireland, a time when the hospitality trade should be seeing booming
sales, instead it has seen a catastrophic decline since the smoking ban was
introduced.
ASH has propagated meaningless medical locker
room talk as scientific fact to foster notions about the dangers of passive
smoking in order to achieve it's obnoxious goal to socially engineer the
smoker from sight. Maureen Moore's misleading statement about the effect of
the smoking ban in Ireland is another example of that groups continued
willingness to ignore facts and the truth and peddle misleading propaganda.
